Kano, Katsina and Jigawa Could Face Total Power Blackout

There are fears that three states in the North; Kano, Katsina and Jigawa could face acute power outage following the vandalisation of pipelines.

Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamma, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), made this known in Kano, warning that it is a major crisis which is almost beyond its control.

Blaming the activities of pipeline vandals which he said has affected the smooth operations of the company, he disclosed that the KEDCO is receiving 50 megawatts, which is grossly inadequate to meet the increasing demands of its customers in the affected states.

Gwamna also lamented that the current situation had badly crippled socio-economic activities of KEDCO’s customers in the three states.

In order to mitigate the issue of the perennial power crisis, he said disclosed that the electricity distribution company had signed a memorandum of understanding with investors willing to invest in sourcing solar energy as an alternative means of power supply.

He pointed out that KEDCO’s major concern was the dismal pace its customers were groaning under difficult circumstance, and the way Kano was badly crippled in terms of socio-economic development emanating as a result of scanty power supply.
