Three persons lost their lives and over one hundred and fifty houses were destroyed as a result of floods in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The affected communities includes Adage, Yalwata, Akura, Uga and Gidan Buba. The flood completely wiped out Gidan Buba Uga, the major bridge in the area.
The Sole Administrator of Lafia LG, Suleiman Wambai, attributed the disaster to the blockage of some waterways and warned people to avoid dumping refuse in drainages.
He said three persons were confirmed dead, while one was declared missing in Dakaci village, adding that properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.
The traditional leader further explained that the affected communities have suffered flooding for decade without any efforts by the state government to address it and called on the government and NEMA to come to the aids of the affected communities.
Also speaking to journalist, a community leader of one of the affected communities, Ibrahim Lawal expressed concern on the recurrent cases of flooding in the communities and appealed to the national assembly and the state government to carry their flight to the federal government in order to safe the situation.
