Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Mohamed Salah from Roma following the conclusion of a medical on Thursday.
Egyptian winger Salah moves to Merseyside for an initial £35 million which could rise to as much as £39 million based on add-ons. Should all the clauses be met, Salah will become the club’s record signing.
However, Liverpool have opted not to publicly disclose the fee.
Salah will take the number 11 shirt at Anfield, which was worn by Roberto Firmino. Firmino will instead wear the number 9 from next season.
Salah has signed a five-year deal and returns to England determined to put his unhappy spell at Chelsea behind him. He opted to move to Stamford Birdge from Basel three years ago after Jose Mourinho personally intervened and convinced him to join, but he was denied opportunities in London.
Klopp believes he has added a valuable asset.
“Mohamed has the perfect mix of experience and potential – this is a really exciting signing for us,” Klopp told Liverpool club website.
“He knows the Premier League, he has pedigree in the Champions League and he is one of the most important players for his country.
“His record in Italy has been outstanding and he possesses qualities that will enhance our team and squad. I have followed him since he emerged at Basel and he has matured into a really good player.
“His pace is incredible, he gives us more attacking threat and we are already strong in this area. I like that we will make it even more competitive.

“Most important though, for us, is that he is hungry, willing and eager to be even better and improve further. He believes in what we are trying to do here at Liverpool and is extremely keen to be part of it. He is very excited about performing for our wonderful supporters.
“He is an ambitious player who wants to win and win at the highest level; he knows he can fulfil those ambitions with Liverpool.”
Despite the hefty fee, Liverpool’s spending is not yet finished.
However, Liverpool know they face a challenge to secure their other main targets this summer.
Naby Keita’s club, Red Bull Leipzig, have reiterated their hardline stance on the player’s future in the wake of Liverpool’s pursuit.
